Tai Chi and QiGong (small group rosters)

Learn the True Art of Tai Chi and QiGong in an intimate small group setting for focused attention as it is traditionally meant to be taught. Progress through our various Course offerings in the study of Yin/Yang philosophy and implemented practices, physical exercises as well as internal cultivation through meditative and contemplative practices.

QiGong is an ancient mind-body practice and a form of gentle exercise integrating posture, movement, breathing techniques, self-massage, sound, and focused intent. It lowers stress and anxiety, bringing a sense of quiet and calm. It includes breath coordinated slow movements, self-applied massage, tapping and meditation to enhance vitality.

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese martial art. Initially developed for combat and self-defense, it has evolved into a sport and form of exercise. Tai Chi is a gentle, low-impact form of exercise in which practitioners perform a series of deliberate, flowing motions while focusing on deep, slow breaths. Often referred to as “meditation in motion,” Tai Chi aims to concentrate and balance the body’s qi, providing benefits to mental and physical health. Yin/Yang theory is at the root of understanding Tai Chi.

A message from Dr. Grace Tsuyuki, Ph.D (Owner/Head Instructor of WabiSabi Wellness)

Welcome to WabiSabi Wellness! WabiSabi Wellness sessions are classes for your mind, body and spirit. “Wabi Sabi” is a Japanese term that embraces life and all its imperfections. It started in the 17th century from the tea ceremony and one of its major principles is to cherish the present moment, because life is impermanent. WabiSabi is about your ability to be happy with what you have—not how much you need to be happy. Key principles of wabi sabi include: living in the moment, simplicity, acceptance of imperfection, tranquility, and intuition.

The pillars of WabiSabi Wellness are SELF, FAMILY and COMMUNITY. By coming to WabiSabi Wellness classes you are taking care of yourself, healing and working to become a better mom, dad, daughter, son, wife, husband, etc… By feeling more positive, you will impact your FAMILY and help grow your family in ways that feel right for you. Last, because your family life is filled with harmony, together my family and your family will act to make our COMMUNITIES, local and global, better places to live and work.

The vision for WabiSabi Wellness is to change the current exercise paradigm. Physically strong bodies are not enough. True wellness and health means balance in our bodies, our minds and our spirits.  WabiSabi Wellness provides classes which embody these principles. It is my sincere wish to empower my students to achieve their personal health goals, in all aspects of wellness.

A message from Sharon Crowell, L.Ac., Dipl.Ac. (Owner/Head Instructor of AcuPoint Comfort Care)

I was first introduced to Tai Chi as an acupuncture student, where it was a required element of our program. Even though I was taught that Tai Chi offered all sorts of health benefits and was great for relaxation, that was not my experience! The classes moved too quickly for me to remember the moves from one class to the next, and the movements were often painful due to my rheumatoid arthritis. It was a full ten years after graduating that I tried Tai Chi again and experienced how Tai Chi can be relaxing, fun, and feel great!

My experience led me to spend time researching and learning styles of QiGong, including Medical QiGong, and forms of Tai Chi that are accessible to students of all levels and physical abilities. When teaching, I enjoy explaining how the movements of QiGong and Tai Chi relate to acupuncture points and acupuncture meridians as well as exploring the meditative aspects of the practices.

Shibashi QiGong (6-week course)
This form of QiGong has been offered to patients in Chinese hospitals to replenish energy and restore health after surgery or medical treatment. The easy to learn components of this QiGong serve as the basis for most Tai Chi movements and is an excellent starting point for exploring the benefits of Chinese Medicine based movement.
